The Many Months of November

Originally the ninth month in the oldest Roman calendar, November gained its name after the Latin for nine, "novem". Later, after the calendar was reformed with the addition of January & February, November became the eleventh month, but retained its original name. Aside from moving places in the calendar, November also has several things to celebrate. For instance, let's look at the summarized list below, courtesy of Nationaldaycalendar.com:

Aviation History Month

Adopt A Senior Pet Month

Gluten-Free Diet Awareness Month

Lung Cancer Awareness Month

Movember

National Adoption Month

National Family Caregivers Month

National Fun with Fondue Month

National Native American Heritage Month

National Pet Cancer Awareness Month

National Raisin Bread Month

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

Spinach and Squash Month

Prematurity Awareness Month

Worldwide Bereaved Siblings Month

So, which nifty celebration(s) to pick? Well, I thought the most crochet appropriate choices would be: World Vegan, Native American Heritage, Spinach and Squash, & Lung Cancer Awareness. Onwards to the roundup!

World Vegan Month

Anti-cruelty to animals. Eco-friendly. Betterment of oneself. Vegans are helpful to the planet, but may also want to utilize their beliefs in the yarn they use. These patterns use Eco-friendly & Vegan-friendly yarn:

National Native American Heritage Month

According to NCAI.org: "November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly refered to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.

The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges." So, celebrate the indigenous heritage by crafting up these patterns:

Spinach and Squash Month

When I say "Spinach", it makes me think of Strength. When I say "Squash", it makes me think of Autumn. Heading into the holidays is a perfect time to combine these two into some wonderful dishes. Celebrate these delicious & nutritious veggies by making some of the following pattens:

Awareness. By definition: Knowledge or perception of a situation of fact. November is full of various Awareness months. So, spread the awareness with this pattern made in the appropriate color (Yellow):
