According to Wikipedia, May is the fifth month of the year of the Julian and Gregorian calendars and has two possible origins. The first is that it is named after the Greek goddess Maia. She is thought to be associated with the Roman goddess, Bona Dea. Bona Dea was the goddess of fertility and chastity in Roman women, healing, & the protection of the state and people of Rome. The second origin is by the Roman poet Ovid. He states that the origin is derived from the Latin word maiores or elders. There are many celebrations for the month of May.
