Originally the tenth month in the oldest Roman calendar, December gained its name after the Latin for ten, "decem". Later, after the calendar was reformed with the addition of January & February, December became the twelfth month, but retained its original name. Aside from moving places in the calendar, December also has several things to celebrate. For instance, let's look at the summarized list below, courtesy of Nationaldaycalendar.com:
International Sharps Injury Prevention Awareness Month
Learn a Foreign Language Month
National Car Donation Month
National Pear Month
Bingo's Birthday Month
National Drunk & Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month
National Human Rights Month
National Tie Month
National Write a Business Plan Month
Operation Santa Paws (1st through 24th)
Root Vegetables and Exotic Fruits Month
Safe Toys and Gifts Month
Spiritual Literacy Month
Universal Human Rights Month
Worldwide Food Service Safety Month
World Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome Awareness Month
So, which nifty celebration(s) to pick? Well, I thought the most crochet appropriate choices would be: Pears, Bingo's Birthday, Ties, & Operation Santa Paws. Onwards to the roundup!

Good in pies. Good as is. Available in various sizes. Pears are a delicious fruit that come in a variety of shapes, just like us humans. Celebrate by taking a bite out of these awesome patterns:

Classy. Professional. A statement piece. Worn by business men & women for a more professional look and punk rockers as a jab to the uniformity they represent, ties make a grand statement for the person wearing them. Tie up your time by making some of the following pattens:

Operation Santa Paws
According to NationalDayCalendar.com, "Operation Santa Paws encourages animal lovers to share the gift of giving at shelters everywhere from December 1st to December 24th. During this holiday season, let’s show a little extra love to our furry friends whom we love with all our hearts. The campaign goal of Operation Santa Paws is to stock the shelters with much-needed supplies. Our four-legged friends need to feel loved during the holidays just like we do!"
Let's help the fur babies stay warm this holiday with the following patterns:
