The Many Months of April




The fourth month of the year of the Julian and Gregorian calendars, it is named after the Latin word Aprilis, though the reasoning behind tis name is uncertain. However, it is thought to be from the verb aperire, which means "to open", and is thought to refer to the fact that trees & plants begin to "open" in this month. It also thought to come from Aphrilis, in honor of Aphrodite, or the goddess of love. It was the second month up until King Numa Pompilius added Ianuarius (January) and Februarius (February) in 700 BC, according to Wikipedia.
